Chaplain Isabel Boura is a recent addition to the café team, but already sees herself as a sort of mother figure to the younger crew. Having originally been a computer programmer, she found herself loving the teaching and listening side of things and wanted to do more of that. She now has a degree in counselling and has worked and volunteered as a chaplain in hospitals and nursing homes for a decade or so. She finds it very rewarding being there to support people through tough times, as she learned from her mother’s generosity to the homeless and hungry during Isabel’s childhood. Although she has lived in Mozambique, Portugal, Zimbabwe and more, she has been in Australia for 25 years and truly calls it home.
